Radiation & EMF FAQs
What does a radiation meter measure?
A radiation meter, such as a Geiger counter, detects ionising radiation. Instruments with a Geiger-Muller tube can detect alpha, beta and gamma radiation, depending on the tube, to help protect people and the environment.
Who uses radiation detection instruments?
They are used in mining, industrial radiography, laboratories, scrap metal recycling and any workplace that handles radioactive sources. They help confirm that exposure stays within safe limits.
Which regulations apply to radiation in South Africa?
Radiation safety in South Africa is regulated by the National Nuclear Regulator and the Department of Health, and it follows international guidance from bodies such as the IAEA and ICRP. Our instruments are selected to support compliance with these requirements.
What is EMF and how is it measured?
Electromagnetic fields (EMF) are produced by power lines, electrical equipment and radio transmitters. EMF meters measure field strength so that exposure can be compared with guidelines such as those of ICNIRP.
Do you have more radiation and EMF meters than those listed?
Yes. We work with international suppliers and can source additional radiation and EMF instruments. Contact us with your application and we will recommend a suitable meter.
