Light FAQs
Why is light measurement important in the workplace?
Poor lighting increases the risk of accidents, eye strain and errors. Measuring light levels with a lux meter is the standard way to check that work areas meet the lighting levels required for the tasks being done.
What does a lux meter measure?
A lux meter measures illuminance, which is the amount of visible light falling on a surface, in lux. Readings are taken at the working surface and compared with the recommended levels for that type of work.
Can I measure LED lighting accurately?
Yes, but you need a meter designed for it. The TA632A light meter includes LED settings, and the Delta OHM LLM LED lux measurement kits are built specifically for measuring LED and other modern light sources.
Do you supply instruments for UV and PAR measurement?
Yes, on request. Instruments for measuring ultraviolet (UVA, UVB and UVC) and photosynthetically active radiation (PAR) are used for health risk assessments, agriculture, horticulture and research. Contact us with your application and we will recommend a suitable meter.
Can light levels be logged over time?
Yes. Light sensors can be connected to data loggers such as the Delta OHM HD50 series to record light levels continuously, which is useful for long-term surveys and environmental monitoring.
