Product Discontinuation – The Tempstress WBGT Meter

After nearly 40 years on the market the Temptress Heat Stress Meter will be discontinued in all its forms.

Run Rite Electronics – OEM manufacturer

Due to several external supply chain issues pressures as well as manufacturing difficulties, Run Rite Electronics will discontinue the manufacture and distribution of the The Tempstress. Current units still in use and circulation will continue to be calibrated and repaired where possible, however limited spares are available through 2024 and inot 2025.

Run Rite Electronics has had a long standing relationship with the company now known as SENSECA and as such is able to offer the latesting Thermal Comfort and Heat Stress monitoring to meet the ever advancing discipline of Indoor Air Quality and Thermal Comfort. With international compliance with ASHRAE standards and a variety of probes and measurement parameters including Wet Bulb/Globe Bulb, VOC, CO2, PM2.5, Dew Point and Humidity measurements the SENSECA range of environmental meters is the perfect replacement to the old Tempstress instrument.

We are able to meet the demands of AIA’s as well as industrial end users, with budget friendly and accurate devices.

Our selection of Heat Stress Meters:

The Tempstress Human Heat Stress Monitor has its origins in the late 1970 and early 1980’s, when research was conducted by the CSIR on the relationship of the Wet-bulb and Globe-bulb temperatures, in correlation to the addition of the Dry-bulb temperature. The radiant temperature measurements collected by the globe probe, were found to have little variance on the direct measurement of the ‘dry bulb’. The 2 probe design of the Tempstress was then commercialised by SciTec for direct sale to the SANDF for use in training exercises. In the Early 2000’s this production was taken over by CEATEC, and facilitated by RunRite Electronics, who ultimately purchased the rights to develop and manufacture a new generation of product. Demand for a 3 probe design had grown with the on-set of greater research and insights into heat stress and thermal comfort. With the onset of COVID-19 lockdown protocols in 2020 and the unforeseen fallout of the closure of small engineering firms and the discontinuation of several lines of silicon chips, the production of the Tempstress was practically haltered. With pre-existing relationships with international brands RunRite Electronics has chosen to focus on promoting these products.
